Super Subbu: Sundeep Kishan turns sex ed teacher in Netflix's July release
Netflix has announced Super Subbu, its first Telugu original series starring Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma. The comedy-drama will premiere in July.

Netflix on Monday announced that its first Telugu original series, Super Subbu, will premiere on July 2. Created and directed by Mallik Ram, the comedy-drama stars Sundeep Kishan, Mithila Palkar and Murali Sharma in lead roles.
Set in the quirky village of Maakipur, Super Subbu follows the story of Subramanyam Chillukuri Rao, fondly known as Subbu, an earnest young man whose life takes an unexpected turn after he lands a job as a sex education officer.
Armed with little experience, a lesson plan and plenty of determination, Subbu sets out to educate the villagers. However, in Maakipur, even an innocent question can become the talk of the village before the school bell rings. What begins as a short-term posting soon turns into a life-changing journey as Subbu finds himself navigating curiosity, chaos and uncomfortable conversations that refuse to stay within four walls.
The series also explores whether Subbu is willing to risk his love, family and career to adapt to his unusual new normal. An announcement video was released earlier where Subbu, played by Sundeep Kishan can be seen being chased by an entire village carrying sickles in their hands, and as Subbu runs away the release date of the series can be seen close by.
Creator and director Mallik Ram said humour became the ideal way to make conversations around sex education feel less taboo. He added that the series also delves into family dynamics, generational gaps and relationships, with the innocence of Subbu serving as the emotional anchor of the story.
Speaking about the series, Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, said that Super Subbu is a delightful comedy with heart that opens up conversations around topics such as sex education and consent through an authentic and humorous narrative. She added that the series brings together a distinct local voice, relatable themes and memorable characters.
Written by Mallik Ram, Ramesh Eligeti and Shivani Dhobal, and produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under Chilaka Productions, Super Subbu also features Maanasa Choudhary, Brahmanandam, Get Up Srinu and Jeevan in pivotal roles. The series will begin streaming on Netflix on July 2.
On the work front, Sundeep Kishan has a busy slate ahead. The actor will next be seen in Sigma, a high-stakes heist entertainer directed by Jason Sanjay, which is slated for release on July 31.
He also has Power Peta, an ambitious political drama directed by Krishna Chaitanya and billed as a story of love, honour and politics. Additionally, the actor has signed a big-budget socio-fantasy thriller with director Ugandhar Muni, marking his return to the fantasy genre after Ooru Peru Bhairavakona.
