Man grabs estranged wife by hair, punches her on Surat road. CCTV captures attack
A man in Surat stopped his estranged wife's scooter and assaulted her on a busy road. The CCTV-captured attack, linked to an ongoing domestic dispute, led to his arrest after her complaint.
A shocking incident of domestic violence was caught on CCTV in Gujarat's Surat, where a man blocked his estranged wife's two-wheeler in the middle of a busy road, dragged her by the hair and repeatedly punched and kicked her, while also threatening to kill her.
The incident took place on Saturday and the CCTV footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the accused, identified as 46-year-old Pravinbhai Amarshibhai Golkiya, stopping his car in front of his wife's scooter, forcing her to stop.
He then gets out of the vehicle, confronts her, grabs her by the hair and drags her before kicking and punching her in full public view.
According to police, the couple had been living separately and during the assault the accused also abused the woman's family members.
When she objected, he allegedly turned violent and assaulted her.
Despite attempts by passersby to intervene, the attack continued until a woman traffic police officer reached the spot.
Before fleeing in his car, Golkiya, who runs a tour and travels business, threatened to kill his estranged wife.
Following the incident, the woman approached the police and lodged a complaint.
He was arrested within hours of the complaint.
Speaking to Aaj Tak, India Today's sister channel, a senior police officer said the couple had been involved in a long-pending domestic dispute that is currently before a court.
They have two daughters, with one staying with the mother and the other with the father.
According to the officer, the two unexpectedly crossed paths on Saturday, following which the daylight assault took place.
