Pak woman, son arrested for visa overstay; their Aadhaar, voter IDs under probe

A Pakistani woman and her son have been arrested in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district for allegedly staying in India after their visas expired and obtaining Indian identity documents without acquiring Indian citizenship. Police said the two had been living in Dasagarepalli village and are now under investigation for allegedly securing official documents meant only for Indian citizens.
The accused have been identified as Farhanaz and her elder son, Mohammed Fardeen Khan.
According to the police, Farhanaz, a Pakistani national, had married Mohammad Ayub Khan, a resident of Dasagarepalli village, and the couple has two children. Investigators said both Farhanaz and Fardeen are Pakistani citizens.
During the preliminary investigation, officials allegedly found that despite not being Indian citizens, the mother and son had obtained several Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar cards, voter identity cards, ration cards and had also opened bank accounts.
Authorities are now examining how these documents were issued and whether any rules were violated in the process.
The case was registered by Bagepalli Police following a complaint filed by the Tahsildar of Bagepalli, Manisha N Patri, after an official verification of the family's records.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complaint was submitted to the police on the night of July 9, 2026.
It states that Farhanaz, wife of Mohammad Ayub Khan, and her elder son Mohammed Fardeen, both residents of Dasagarepalli village, had allegedly obtained voter identity cards and ration cards despite not acquiring Indian citizenship.
The complaint further says that the verification was carried out after the Office of the Superintendent of Police issued directions through a letter dated March 17, 2026, asking officials to examine the matter in accordance with the law and submit an urgent report.
During the inquiry, revenue officials examined the available records and reportedly found that both Farhanaz and her son had registered for voter identity cards and ration cards without first becoming Indian citizens.
Based on these findings, the Tahsildar concluded that possessing such documents without Indian citizenship was illegal and requested that criminal action be initiated against both individuals.
Following the complaint, Bagepalli Police registered an FIR and arrested the two accused.
Officials are now verifying the authenticity of the identity documents, examining how they were issued, and investigating whether any government officials or other persons were involved in facilitating the process.
Police are also looking into the bank accounts opened by the accused as part of the wider probe.
Authorities are expected to determine the extent of the alleged violations, verify all documents linked to the accused, and take further legal action based on the findings of the ongoing inquiry.Further investigation is underway, police said.
