2 killed, several injured after bus plunges into gorge in Himachal Pradesh

An HRTC bus on the Rampur-Khadahan-Kotadhar-Kholighat route crashed near Gartola on Wednesday evening, leaving two dead and several injured. Rescue teams were deployed, the injured were taken to Khaneri hospital, and relief was announced for affected families.

An HRTC bus on the Rampur-Khadahan-Kotadhar-Kholighat route crashed near Gartola

Two people died, and several others sustained injuries after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus fell in a gorge near Gartola in Rampur subdivision of Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district on Wednesday evening.

The accident took place at around 6:30 pm when the HRTC bus, operating on the Rampur–Khadahan–Kotadhar–Kholighat route, lost control and met with an accident near Gartola.

According to preliminary information, around 22 passengers were travelling in the bus at the time of the crash.

The victims have been identified as bus conductor Jai Prakash Negi, and 72-year-old Daku Ram. Both died on the spot.

Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap expressed grief over the incident and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

He said the district administration has immediately released an ex gratia relief of Rs 20,000 under the relief rules to the family of the local deceased. He added that relief for the other deceased will be released immediately after the required report is received.

The Deputy Commissioner said all injured passengers are being shifted to the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Medical Complex in Khaneri, Rampur, where a team of doctors is providing primary treatment and other necessary medical care.

He also said the district administration's teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations at the accident site.

Meanwhile, Rampur SDM Harsh Amarendra Negi is present at the hospital to supervise treatment and relief efforts and ensure that the injured receive timely assistance.

The district administration said it will provide all possible assistance to the affected families and those injured in the accident.
