Dubai-Mumbai IndiGo flight makes emergency landing in Rajkot after smoke scare

An IndiGo flight travelling from Dubai to Mumbai made an emergency landing at Rajkot International Airport on Monday after smoke was detected in the aircraft's cargo hold, prompting authorities to declare a full emergency.
Flight 6E1452, operated by an Airbus A321, was diverted to Rajkot after the crew reported smoke in the cargo hold area. According to airport authorities, a full emergency was declared at 2.45 pm, and the aircraft landed safely at 3.27 pm.
The flight was carrying 194 people on board. All passengers safely disembarked after landing, averting a major mishap. Police, fire brigade personnel and ambulances were deployed at the airport as a precautionary measure.
Rajkot Police Commissioner earlier said there was no cause for concern and confirmed that all passengers had been evacuated safely.
Passengers are scheduled to continue their journey to Mumbai at 7.30 pm on a replacement IndiGo aircraft being flown in from Mumbai.
INDIGO CITES TECHNICAL ISSUE
In a statement, an IndiGo spokesperson said Flight 6E1452, operating from Dubai to Mumbai, was diverted to Rajkot "as a precautionary measure due to a technical issue".
"The aircraft landed safely at Rajkot, and all passengers have deboarded securely. An inspection of the aircraft is currently underway before it is cleared to resume operations," the airline said.
IndiGo added that an alternate aircraft was being arranged to fly passengers to Mumbai while ground staff were assisting customers and making necessary arrangements to minimise inconvenience.
"We sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to our customers due to this unforeseen situation. At IndiGo, the safety of our passengers and crew remains our utmost priority," the spokesperson said.
CARGO HOLD UNDER INSPECTION
Following the emergency landing, teams began inspecting the cargo hold to determine the source of the smoke. An investigation into the aircraft is currently underway, while the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is monitoring the incident in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
SECOND INDIGO EMERGENCY IN RECENT MONTHS
In May, an IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Chandigarh was evacuated after smoke filled the cabin following an internal explosion in a passenger's power bank.
The aircraft, carrying 198 passengers and six crew members, had landed at Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport and was taxiing to the bay when a passenger alerted the crew about the fire.
Although the cabin crew quickly extinguished the flames, smoke had already spread through the cabin, prompting an emergency evacuation using inflatable slides.
