Trainee pilot hospitalised after spinning propeller hits her at Kanpur airport

A woman trainee pilot was injured at the Chakeri airport in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur while she was de-boarding a twin-engine trainer aircraft after a session of nighttime instructional flying.
While the incident took place on Friday, June 26, details about it surfaced only after the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued an official statement.
The aviation watchdog has initiated a probe into the accident. The concerned instructor has been barred from flying training duties until the investigation is concluded.
The incident took place while the trainee pilot was de-boarding the aircraft with the engine still running, the DGCA said. She subsequently came in contact with the spinning propeller of the plane.
"On 26.06.2026, Garg Aviation (FTO) Twin engine Tecnam P2006T aircraft VT-NBV was engaged in night instructional flying at Kanpur (Chakeri) Airport. A flight instructor and a cadet were on board the aircraft. After landing, the trainee pilot deboarded the aircraft with the engine running," the DGCA said in its statement.
The cadet sustained injuries in the back when she was hit by the aircraft's spinning propeller, it added. "She is admitted in a hospital in Kanpur. The involved instructor has been off-rostered from the flying training duties pending investigation," the DGCA stated. The aviation watchdog further said that it has directed no utilisation of the aircraft as long as the investigation is underway.
