Uttar Pradesh is an Indian state which is located in northern India. Uttar Pradesh gained recognition during the British rule and came into being on April 1, 1937 as the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. It was later in the year 1950 when the state was renamed Uttar Pradesh. With an area of 93,023 sq. m, UP is the fourth Indian largest state. Also, UP is the most populous Indian state and the most populous country subdivision in the world. UP shares its borders with nine states including Rajasthan to the west, Uttarakhand to the north, Bihar to the east, Madhya Pradesh to the south and Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh to the southeast. The state also shares an international border with Nepal. The state capital is Lucknow with Allahabad serving as the judicial capital. Ganga and Yamuna are the two major rivers that flow through the state. Meanwhile, Awadhi, Bagheli, Bundeli, Braj Bhasha, Kannauji are the major languages spoken in the state.
Interestingly, Indian classical dance form, Kathak is said to be originated from the land of UP. The state is world-famous for Nawabi foods or Awadhi cuisine which is influenced by Mughal cooking techniques (dum style of cooking) such as ‘biryani’, ‘korma’, ‘kebab’, ‘sheermal’, ‘nahari-kulchas’.

In a major breakthrough in the murder case of Kanpur businessman Vineet Manocha, police investigations have revealed that his son, Subrat Manocha, was the mastermind behind the killing. Manocha was brutally stabbed to death at his residence by hired assailants. While his daughter-in-law, Shalu, was initially arrested after being named by the alleged killers, subsequent inquiries uncovered that Subrat orchestrated the crime and intentionally framed his wife. Subrat confessed to hiring goons and instructing an accomplice to name Shalu if apprehended. He cited severe financial constraints imposed by his father and concerns over property transfer as motives for the crime. Four individuals, including Central Reserve Police Force personnel and local police personnel, have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha following allegations of gang rape at a farmhouse. According to Amroha Superintendent of Police Lakhan Singh Yadav, a complaint was lodged by the survivor stating that she was lured under the pretext of visiting a religious site before being assaulted. The accused named in the case include CRPF personnel Mohit and Lalaram, alongside two others identified as Sanjay and Pramod. Action has also been initiated against local police officers for negligence, while the farmhouse where the incident took place is under scrutiny. A tragic incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh following an eight-hour siege where a man named Arvind Singh shot dead his wife Babita, two priests, and his son. The incident occurred during a ceremony organised following his brother's demise. Upon returning home, the accused reportedly questioned the priests about their Aadhaar cards before opening fire. While two priests managed to flee, two others along with Arvind's wife were killed on the spot. Arvind subsequently held his three children hostage inside a room. Police personnel and family members attempted to negotiate his surrender, but Arvind issued death threats, shot his son, and opened indiscriminate fire on the police. In retaliatory firing conducted for self-defence and child rescue, Arvind was injured and later declared dead at the hospital alongside his son. Police successfully rescued two daughters from the residence and rushed them to the hospital.
A horrific incident in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh claimed five lives after a man, identified as Arvind Singh, opened fire following an argument during a religious ritual at his home. Singh, who reportedly lost faith in rituals and opposed household prayers following his elder brother Sunil Singh's murder in 2018, confronted priests performing a Mahamrityunjay chant. After demanding identity proofs from the priests and facing opposition from his wife, Babita, Singh shot her and two priests dead. He subsequently locked himself inside a room, holding his three young children hostage. Senior police officials, including the DIG of Azamgarh and ADG Zone Varanasi, surrounded the residence during an intense eight-hour standoff. When gunfire was heard from inside, police used stun grenades and tear gas to breach the premises. Singh fired upon the team with his licensed revolver, prompting retaliatory police fire. Singh and his eldest son, Shaurya, were fatally wounded, while two young daughters were rescued and hospitalised.

A power department team that had gone to inspect electricity connections in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor was allegedly assaulted and abused by locals after officials detected signs of electricity theft. A video of the incident, which took place on September 18, has now surfaced. According to a police complaint filed by Junior Engineer (JE) Sudeep Kumar Sharma, the team was surrounded and prevented from leaving while carrying out the inspection. He alleged that team members were assaulted and threatened with being implicated in a false molestation case. The Electricity Testing Laboratory team, accompanied by the Assistant Engineer (Meter) and other employees, had gone to the Chandpur area for an inspection. The team also visited the residence of a consumer identified as Karan. According to the department’s complaint, officials found a cut in the incoming cable connected to the electricity meter installed at the premises. Several additional cables had allegedly been connected to operate an electric heater in the kitchen and supply electricity to nearby shops. When the team began recording the inspection on video, around 20-30 people allegedly gathered at the spot, officials said. The group allegedly surrounded the electricity department team and prevented them from leaving. The officials were subsequently assaulted, according to the complaint. Their phone was also allegedly snatched, and the video recording of the inspection was deleted. The power department officials further alleged that Junior Engineer Satyam Kumar Yadav, who was part of the team, was forced to sign a blank piece of paper. The complaint also refers to an alleged incident two to three days before the confrontation. According to Sudeep Kumar Sharma, a person named Ankit had called him and threatened to assault him. He said he had informed his senior officials about the alleged threat over the phone. Police have registered a case against several people in connection with the incident.
