PM Modi in France, set for Macron talks and innovation summit today
PM Narendra Modi lands in France's Nice at the start of his Europe tour, setting the stage for high-stakes talks with Emmanuel Macron, key innovation events, and a packed diplomatic itinerary spanning France, Slovakia and the G7 summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in France’s Nice last night, marking the beginning of his two-nation Europe visit that will include high-level talks, major innovation engagements and participation in the upcoming G7 Summit.
The Prime Minister was received by senior French dignitaries, including Minister of Education Edouard Geffray, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Space Philippe Baptiste, and France’s Ambassador to India Thierry Mathou.
His visit begins with France before he travels to Slovakia and then returns to France for the G7 Summit in Evian.
MACRON TALKS AND INNOVATION PUSH IN NICE
A key highlight of the Nice leg will be the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron today.
The two leaders are also set to inaugurate Bharat Innovates 2026, a three-day innovation conclave bringing together startups and venture capital funds from India, France and other countries.
The event is expected to focus on strengthening collaboration between innovation ecosystems and expanding opportunities for emerging technologies.
India and France elevated their ties earlier this year to a Special Global Strategic Partnership, adding further weight to the discussions in Nice.
SLOVAKIA VISIT MARKS FIRST BY INDIAN PM SINCE 1993
From France, PM Modi will travel to Slovakia for a state visit on June 14–15, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister since Slovakia’s independence in 1993.
In Bratislava, he is scheduled to hold talks with President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico, along with interactions with business leaders.
The discussions are expected to cover bilateral cooperation as well as broader engagement between India and the European Union.
RETURN TO FRANCE FOR G7 SUMMIT IN EVIAN
PM Modi will return to France on June 16 to attend the G7 Summit in Evian, scheduled for June 16–17.
He is expected to meet US President Donald Trump on June 17 on the sidelines of the summit, with trade discussions likely to be part of the agenda.
In his departure statement, PM Modi said India will not only speak for itself at the G7 but will also represent the aspirations of the Global South.
“This is the 8th consecutive G7 Summit to which India has been invited,” he said, adding that India’s presence reflects growing global trust.
STRATEGIC SIGNALS AND EUROPE ENGAGEMENT
Modi also said France holds a special place in India’s strategic outlook, while the Slovakia visit marks a historic step in bilateral relations.
He added that momentum around the India-EU Free Trade Agreement will further energise ties with the European Union, with Slovakia playing an important role.
The Prime Minister will conclude his France visit in Paris on June 18, where he is expected to attend VivaTech 2026 alongside Macron and meet members of the Indian community.
