Man goes to in-laws to convince wife to return home, set on fire by brother-in-law
The victim had gone to his in-laws' house to persuade his wife to return home after she had gone there following a dispute. There, his brother-in-law poured an inflammable substance, believed to be kerosene, on him and set him on fire.

A man died in Punjab's Tarn Taran last month after he was set on fire by his brother-in-law over a family dispute. The accused's sister-in-law, who tried to intervene, also caught on fire and later succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a hospital.
The incident took place on June 13, but the CCTV footage of the shocking incident has only surfaced now. It happened in Sangha village of Tarn Taran district.
Police said the victim has been identified as Lovepreet Singh. He had gone to his in-laws' house in Sangha village of Tarn Taran district to persuade his wife, Sandeep Kaur, to return home after she had gone there following a dispute. During the visit, his brother-in-law, identified as Sajan Singh, poured an inflammable substance, believed to be kerosene, on Lovepreet and set him ablaze.
Gurjit Kaur, the accused's sister-in-law, rushed to rescue Lovepreet but also sustained severe burn injuries in the incident. Both victims later succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
CCTV footage purportedly shows the sequence of events. It shows a man suddenly setting another on fire, who then frantically moves around in an attempt to douse the fire. A woman, who instantly tries to stop the fire as soon as the victim is set ablaze, falls prey. Seconds later, a third man, who earlier stood behind the woman, is seen trying to help the woman, who becomes unable to move by the end of the video.
The accused, Sajan Singh, also suffered burn injuries during the incident and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The Sadar Police Station in Tarn Taran has registered a case against Sajan Singh. Further investigation is underway.
