UP police arrests four, seizes Rs 11 lakh and arms after encounter in Sultanpur
Police intercepted the four suspects near Pidhi toll after receiving a tip-off. The accused allegedly opened fire while trying to flee, prompting retaliatory action before their arrest.

Four alleged thieves, including a Sitapur-based criminal carrying a reward of Rs 50,000, were arrested after an encounter in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, police said on Friday. Three of the accused were injured in the exchange of fire and were admitted to the Community Health Centre in Jaisinghpur for treatment.
Police said the four men were intercepted after a patrol team received information in the early hours of Friday about suspicious movement near Pidhi toll. When officers tried to stop the Jeep Compass they were travelling in, the suspects allegedly opened fire and tried to escape, following which the police retaliated and arrested them.
Additional Superintendent of Police Brajnarayan Singh said the patrol team in the Jaisinghpur police station area got the tip-off at around 3 am that some suspicious persons were moving around near the toll plaza with the intention of committing thefts. The four arrested men were identified as Aniket, Akash, Mithilesh and Ajay alias Anant.
The officer said Aniket Chauhan of Narendra Pur village in Sitapur is wanted in about 52 cases and carries a reward of Rs 50,000.
Akash of Bibipur village in Sitapur faces 46 cases, Mithilesh Chauhan of Mathuapur village in Sitapur has 26 cases registered against him, and Ajay alias Anant Ram of Bibipur Imaliya in Sultanpur has 22 cases against him.
Police said they seized three country-made pistols, 22 live cartridges, around Rs 11 lakh in cash, a Jeep Compass and some jewellery from the accused.
During questioning, the four allegedly confessed to carrying out thefts in several neighbouring districts over a long period and said they had come to the area to commit another theft when they were intercepted, Singh added.
The case centres on the arrest of four alleged thieves, the injuries to three of them in the encounter, and the recovery of weapons, cash, jewellery and the vehicle, police said.
