According to locals, 35-year-old Pinki, a resident of UP's Auraiya district, had been battling tuberculosis for the past four years and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kanpur. She died on Monday evening after her condition deteriorated.
The next morning, as family members prepared for her last rites, her husband, 40-year-old Shyaml Das, collapsed while performing the customary ritual of applying vermilion (sindoor) to his wife's forehead before the cremation.
According to locals, Shyaml remained inconsolable throughout the night following his wife's death and later suffered a fatal heart attack.
His sudden death turned the family's grief into an even bigger tragedy, with the couple's funeral processions taking place on the same day.
