A physical altercation between two former Apartment Owners Association (AOA) office-bearers inside a lift at a residential society in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad has come to light, with CCTV footage of the incident going viral on social media.

The incident took place on Wednesday morning at the GS-7 high-rise society in the Crossing Republik police station area. The viral footage purportedly shows the two men arguing inside the lift before the confrontation escalates into a physical fight.

According to initial information, the altercation involved Prahlad Kumar and Deepak Chopra, both former office-bearers of the society's Apartment Owners Association. Police said the two allegedly got into an argument while travelling in the lift, which soon turned into a scuffle.

The CCTV footage appears to show one of the men striking the other first, after which both are seen pushing, shoving and exchanging blows inside the elevator. The video has since been widely shared on social media, drawing attention to the incident.

The footage also displays inconsistent timestamps. While the recording initially shows the date as July 15, 2026, matching the reported date of the incident, later frames abruptly switch to January 1, 2004. The discrepancy has not been officially explained, though such inconsistencies can occur because of system clock errors, device resets or recording glitches in surveillance systems.

Residents familiar with the matter claimed that the two men had been involved in disputes over AOA-related issues on several occasions in the past. According to local residents, disagreements between them had been simmering for some time before culminating in Wednesday's altercation.

Following the incident, Deepak Chopra approached the Crossing Republik police station and lodged a complaint, seeking legal action against the other party.

POLICE CONFIRMS COMPLAINT RECEIVED

Police confirmed that a complaint has been received and that an investigation has been initiated. Officials said the viral CCTV footage and other available evidence are being examined as part of the probe.

"The matter is under investigation. Action will be taken based on the findings and the evidence collected during the inquiry," police said.

Authorities have not yet confirmed whether an FIR has been registered in the case. They said further legal action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

The incident has sparked discussions among residents of the housing society, with many expressing concern over a dispute between former office-bearers escalating into violence inside a residential complex. Police have urged residents to resolve disagreements through lawful means while the investigation continues.
