Yogi govt may offer women Rs 50,000 via cash transfer or expanded welfare schemes
The Uttar Pradesh government is considering up to Rs 50,000 in assistance for women. The proposal could be delivered through direct cash transfers, expanded welfare schemes, or both.

The Uttar Pradesh government is considering a proposal to provide financial assistance of up to Rs 50,000 to women, with discussions underway on how the benefit should be delivered.
One option is to transfer the amount directly into the bank accounts of eligible women under a direct benefit transfer (DBT) model. Another proposal is to provide the benefit through schemes focused on education, healthcare and skill development.
Instead of giving Rs 50,000 as a lump-sum amount, the BJP government may expand existing women-focused welfare schemes and provide assistance under different heads. Some of the key schemes already being implemented in Uttar Pradesh include:
- Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana: Provides financial assistance of Rs 15,000 to eligible girls from birth through different stages of education, including graduation.
- Rani Lakshmibai Scooty Yojana: Aims to provide scooters to meritorious female students after they complete graduation.
- Nirashrit Mahila Pension Yojana: Provides Rs 3,000 every three months to eligible destitute women, including widows, for their livelihood.
- Rani Lakshmibai Mahila Evam Bal Samman Kosh: Provides financial assistance for the treatment and rehabilitation of women and children who are victims of serious violence, including acid attacks.
- Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana: Provides financial assistance for the marriage of daughters from poor and destitute families, as well as daughters of widowed women.
- Self Help Groups and Lakhpati Didi: Focus on helping women become financially independent by connecting them with self-employment, small businesses and livelihood opportunities.
- UP Roadways free travel: Women aged above 60 years are provided free travel on Uttar Pradesh Roadways buses.
DIRECT CASH TRANSFER ALSO UNDER CONSIDERATION
The government is also examining the option of providing the proposed Rs 50,000 directly to women's bank accounts. However, no final decision has been taken on the mode of delivery or the structure of the proposed assistance.
The proposal could ultimately combine direct financial assistance with expanded support in areas such as education, healthcare, skill development and economic empowerment.
