A man in Uttar Pradesh's Agra beat and strangled his 24-year-old daughter for marrying against her family's wishes, police said. The accused, identified as Vimal Sharma, has been arrested and has confessed to the crime during interrogation.

As tensions escalated over the marriage, Vimal Sharma on Monday night started beating his daughter before strangling her with a scarf.
His wife and son were present during the incident. After the killing, he asked them to leave the house and remained seated beside the body.
Neighbours reportedly heard screams from the house and when repeated knocks went unanswered and lights switched off, they alerted the police.
A police team forced open the door and found Ankita lying unconscious with a scarf tightly wrapped around her neck. Blood was reportedly seen coming from her mouth.
She was rushed to hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
