Indian Railways has approved a Rs 976 crore multitracking project on the Danapur-Fatuha section in Bihar, aiming to ease congestion, improve connectivity and boost passenger and freight train capacity.

WHAT THE PROJECT WILL DO
The project will add third and fourth railway lines along the Danapur-Fatuha section, making train operations smoother on this heavily used corridor.
According to the Railways, the added capacity will allow the introduction of 22 additional passenger trains and 18 additional freight trains every day in the first year after the project becomes operational. It is also expected to enable the movement of an additional 5.2 million tonnes of freight annually.
WHY THIS ROUTE MATTERS
The Danapur-Fatuha stretch is part of the Delhi–Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction–Patna–Kiul–Bhagalpur–Howrah corridor, one of the country's busiest rail routes.
The project is also included under Indian Railways' Energy, Mineral and Cement Corridor, which focuses on improving freight movement for industries and power projects. Better rail capacity is expected to reduce delays for both passenger and goods trains.
BOOST FOR BIHAR CONNECTIVITY
Besides improving passenger travel, the project is expected to strengthen logistics and support industrial development in Bihar. It will also improve connectivity to the upcoming 2,120 MW Chausa thermal power plant, making freight movement more efficient.
The Railways said the investment is part of its ongoing push to expand capacity on high-density routes, improve operational efficiency and meet the growing demand for rail transport across the country.
