Mukesh Ambani impressed by Dhurandhar's Rs 3,000 crore: 40% of India's box office
Mukesh Ambani praised the Dhurandhar franchise for its unprecedented box office success, contributing 40% of India's total collections and setting new industry benchmarks.

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has praised the success of the Dhurandhar franchise in his latest letter to shareholders, highlighting the film series as a major milestone for Jio Studios. It has crossed a staggering Rs 3,000 crore at the box office, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of India’s total theatrical earnings.
His comments come at a time when lead actor Ranveer Singh is in the spotlight amid an industry controversy surrounding his exit from Don 3, although the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) non-cooperation directive against him has now been withdrawn.
In his annual communication, Ambani highlighted Jio Studios’ performance over the past three years, claiming the company delivered the highest-grossing film each year with Stree 2 (2024), Dhurandhar (2025) and Dhurandhar: The Revenge (2026).
"FY 2025-26 saw Jio Studios release the record-smashing spy action thrillers Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar: The Revenge (together the Dhurandhar franchise), creating new benchmarks in box office performance, release strategy, monetisation models and customer engagement globally," he wrote.
He also pointed to what he described as the franchise's unusual production and release model. "Never before in the world, let alone India, had a film franchise been conceived, financed and shot as two parts and released so close to each other," Ambani claimed.
However, some cinephiles noted that films such as Gangs of Wasseypur Part 1 and Part 2 were also shot together and released a few months apart.
Ambani further described the franchise’s box office run as historic, saying the first part became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time before the sequel went on to perform even better. "The first part on its own created a record to become the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The film enjoyed an unprecedented run of 15 straight weeks until the second part arrived in cinemas amid massive anticipation and went on to shatter records set by the first film," he said.
His praise for the franchise comes at a time when Ranveer Singh is facing scrutiny from sections of the film industry over his decision to leave Don 3. FWICE had earlier announced a non-cooperation directive against the actor, but the body has now revoked it.
Speaking at a press conference, FWICE president Ashok Pandit said, "After our last press conference, we reached out to other film bodies seeking their support. We received responses from IMPAA and the Producers Guild of India. Considering their appeal and the larger interests of the film industry, we are immediately revoking the directive against Ranveer Singh." The dispute between Ranveer Singh and Farhan Akhtar, however, remains unresolved.
The Dhurandhar franchise, reportedly made on a combined budget of Rs 350 crore, has emerged as one of Indian cinema's biggest box office stories. The first film grossed Rs 1,307 crore worldwide, while the sequel crossed Rs 1,800 crore globally, taking the franchise's overall gross to more than Rs 3,100 crore.
