Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has weighed in on the conversation around Ranveer Singh allegedly being targeted in the film industry, suggesting that the Don 3 backlash may be linked to his recent film, Dhurandhar. Speaking during the promotion of her latest release, Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata, Kangana said some sections of the industry become uncomfortable when films portray what she called Pakistan's "real face".

In an interview with News18, Kangana was asked why Ranveer Singh had "suddenly become a target". Initially brushing aside the question, she replied, "You should ask him that. How would I know?"

However, when reminded that she too had faced similar criticism and targeting in the past, the actor elaborated on her views. Kangana claimed that the film industry has "some love for Pakistan" and argued that many films over the years have encouraged audiences to sympathise with or admire the neighbouring country.

Referring to Dhurandhar, she said that films which present Pakistan in a different light often trigger discomfort among certain people in the industry.

She said, "Main yahi kehna chahti hoonki, ek toh industry jo haiyou know a bit ofinme hai thoda Pakistan prem hai. Adhiktar filmein toh hume Pakistan prem hi sikhate hain na. Abhi tak sikhati aayi hain (What I want to say is that the industry has, you know, a bit of... There is some love for Pakistan among many people here. Most films have, in a way, taught us to sympathise with or admire Pakistan. That's what they have been doing for years)."

Referring to Dhurandhar, she said that films which present Pakistan in a different light often trigger discomfort among certain people in the industry.

"When a film comes along that shows Pakistan's real face, some people feel uncomfortable. They begin questioning the value of everything they have been doing and promoting all these years," Kangana added.

The remarks come amid discussions surrounding Ranveer Singh and the reception to Dhurandhar, though the actor has not publicly commented on claims that he is being targeted.

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar featured Ranveer Singh as an Indian spy who infiltrates Pakistan’s underworld, rises through its political hierarchy to become a kingpin, and ultimately dismantles a terror network targeting India. The two-part film went on to earn over Rs 3,000 crore worldwide as a franchise.

Ranveer Singh's Don 3 row

Last month, FWICE issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh after reports suggested he had stepped away from Don 3 just weeks before the film was due to go on floors. The move followed a complaint reportedly filed by Farhan Akhtar with the body, in which he claimed that Excel Entertainment had incurred losses of around Rs 45 crore due to Ranveer’s exit after the success of Dhurandhar. However, the directive was withdrawn last week after the intervention of the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association and the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association.
