Love is felt: Vir Das reacts to Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation, slams naysayers

Actor-comedian Vir Das reacted to Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation as Union Education Minister following nationwide protests. Along with re-posting a video from one of his older sets, Vir addressed people who say that nothing can change in the country.

In an Instagram video reacting to the development, Vir urged people to celebrate while also using the moment to respond to what he described as the familiar pessimism heard in offices, families, WhatsApp groups and circles of friends.

In the video, he said, "Now celebrate this quickly because you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow. Something will happen."

"At your office, in your family, on your WhatsApp group, in your friends’ circle, there will always be one who will say ‘nothing will happen’ ‘but in India’ ‘this is how it is only’.” He then added, “This is how it is only. To that person. Please, shut up. Just shut up. Just for today," the actor added.

Vir also posted several messages on X after Pradhan's resignation. He wrote, "FRAAANDS!!!! (sic)”

In another post, he joked, "Tonight on your TV screens at 9pm. Many versions of ‘You know we here at ______ have been saying all along (sic)."

"I hope you like pancakes, you’re about to see a lot of flipping (sic)," the actor added in another post.

While sharing a clip from one of his sets, Vir wrote, “Hate is yelled, love is felt (sic).”

In the video, he said, “You realise that hate is yelled, while love is felt,” and added, “And trust, that it will always outlast the hate. And that’s not even history, that’s just basic Harry Potter. But if you are ever at the receiving end of hate or feel like your nation is lost in it, from my family to you, I just want you to know that love is always playing right underneath.”

As the clip concluded the comedian said, “You just can’t hear it in the darkness. You gotta hang out till sunlight. You will hear it. It’s soft, but it’s not weak.”

Apart from Vir, actors Priyanka Chopra, Bhumi Pednekar, Vijay Varma and Aditi Rao Hydari also reacted to Pradhan's resignation.

Actors Kamal Haasan and Prakash Raj emphasised the relevance of democracy, dialogue and youth-led dissent.

Veteran actors Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah had also voiced support for the Cokcroach Janta Party's (CJP) student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
