The Bombay High Court on Thursday pulled up Salman Khan's Panvel farmhouse neighbour over social media posts against the actor, saying access to online platforms does not entitle anyone to post defamatory content and suggesting that the posts be deleted. Kakkad has alleged that Khan's Panvel farmhouse was built in violation of environmental norms.

According to a PTI report, the court made the remarks while hearing actor Salman Khan's plea against his Panvel farmhouse neighbour, Ketan Kakkad, and suggested that the latter consider deleting posts made against the Bollywood star.

Hearing the matter, Justice Sharmila Deshmukh questioned why individuals choose to air grievances on social media instead of pursuing remedies through the appropriate authorities.

"Just because one has access to social media does not mean they can upload videos about any person, whether a common citizen or a celebrity, merely to defame them. Why upload such videos on social media?" the judge observed.

Kakkad, who owns property adjacent to Khan's farmhouse in Panvel near Navi Mumbai, has alleged that the actor violated environmental norms during the construction of the property and obstructed access to neighbouring land. He claimed that despite approaching authorities with his complaints, no action was taken.

Khan subsequently filed a defamation suit, alleging that Kakkad had uploaded videos and other content on social media that tarnished his reputation. The actor argued that the posts were not only defamatory but also communally provocative in nature.

After a civil court declined to grant relief, Khan approached the Bombay High Court seeking directions to have the allegedly defamatory content removed and to restrain Kakkad from making further such remarks.

During Thursday's hearing, Justice Deshmukh also questioned whether valuable judicial time should be spent determining the defamatory nature of individual social media posts and deciding whether they should remain online.

The court suggested that Kakkad consider deleting the content and posted the matter for further hearing on July 6.
