Actor Prakash Raj shared a video on social media on Friday morning, tapping into the online buzz around the viral Cockroach Janta Party, or CJP. In the video, Raj refers to himself as a "cockroach" and addresses Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to see how "cockroaches eat mangoes", often described as his favourite fruit, in a clear jibe linked to the wider political chatter the satirical account has triggered online.

The video adds to the growing attention around the fictional, satire-driven political movement created by digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke. CJP gained major traction online earlier this month after a satirical response to remarks made by Chief Justice Surya Kant, and it currently operates through two separate social media accounts.

What Prakash Raj posted

Raj, who has often been politically vocal, is seen in the video mixing ice cream with mango pulp before eating it as a summer treat. The caption on his post read, "Cockroach eating mangoes.. yummy #CockroachJantaParty #justasking (sic)." As he joins the trend, he uses the language and imagery that have become closely associated with the Cockroach Janta Party’s online presence.

The 61-year-old follows the Cockroach Janta Party account on social media. He has also been sharing its posts and helping amplify its messaging online.

How the Cockroach Janta Party took off

The online movement began as a satirical response to remarks made by Chief Justice Surya Kant and has since become one of the most talked-about social media trends in recent days. Several film celebrities, including Anurag Kashyap, Dia Mirza, Esha Gupta, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Kunal Kohli, among others, follow the social media account.

The Cockroach Janta Party was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old Boston University graduate, and was launched online on May 16. What started as an internet joke quickly grew into a viral political satire campaign across Instagram and X. The group crossed 19 million followers within six days on Instagram.

The remarks that sparked the campaign

The campaign emerged after remarks made during a May 15 hearing by Chief Justice Surya Kant drew criticism online. Referring to unemployed youth and social media activists, he reportedly said that some youngsters were “like cockroaches” who attacked everyone online. The comments were followed by a wave of memes, reactions and satirical content across social media platforms.

He later clarified his statement, saying, “I am pained to read how a section of the media has misquoted my oral observations made during the hearing of a frivolous case yesterday. What I had specifically criticised were those who have entered professions like the Bar (legal profession) with the aid of fake and bogus degrees."

He went on, "Similar persons have sneaked into the media, social media, and other noble professions as well, and hence, they are like parasites. It is totally baseless to suggest that I criticised the youth of our nation. Not only am I proud of our present and future human resource, but every youth of India inspires me. It is not an exaggeration to say that Indian youth have great regard and respect for me, and I too see them as the pillars of a developed India.”

Why the satire spread

Much of the campaign's popularity has come from its tongue-in-cheek political messaging and meme-friendly tone. Young users across Instagram and X began jokingly declaring themselves "eligible candidates" for leadership roles, helping push the trend further.

The party's manifesto has also drawn attention online. It describes itself as "secular, socialist, democratic, lazy" and includes proposals such as a ban on post-retirement Rajya Sabha seats for chief justices, 50 per cent reservation for women in Parliament, and a 20-year election ban for defecting MLAs and MPs.

Raj's video now places him firmly within that online moment, linking his post, his long-standing political commentary, and the CJP's satirical style. As the fictional movement continues to gather followers and celebrity attention, the actor's latest social media video has added another layer to a trend that began with a courtroom remark and quickly turned into one of the internet’s most widely shared political jokes.
