Actor_CM Vijay's Jana Nayagan has been granted an A certification from the Central Board of Film Certification.

Actor-turned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and the makers of his final film, Jana Nayagan, have confirmed that the film has received an 'A' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and will release in theatres soon. The confirmation came from Vijay on Saturday, after the makers complied with the board's 12 suggested modifications.

Sharing a new poster for the H Vinoth-directed film, the team wrote on Instagram, "See you soon in theatres nanba and nanbis (friends). Jana Nayagan censored A (sic)." The caption also referred to Vijay as the honourable chief minister for the first time in the banner's promotional material. It reads, "The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu...C Joseph Vijay (sic)."

While the makers have not announced an official release date yet, reports say the film is expected to reach theatres later this July.

The confirmation comes around six months after a widely reported censorship dispute between the producer and the CBFC. Earlier, one of the board members had reportedly objected to granting the film clearance for release because of its exploration of communal and religious sentiments, along with military references.

According to reports, the film was given an A certificate because of its political messaging, religious lines and stunt sequences. After the legal dispute, the board reportedly asked for 12 modifications before clearing the film. These included scenes showing a falling national flag, references to Vijay's party TVK, and certain cuss words and religious words.

Jana Nayagan also features actors Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani and Narain, among others. The technical team includes composer Anirudh, cinematographer Sathyan Sooryan, editor Pradeep E Ragav and production designer V Selvakumar. The film is a remake of the National Award-winning Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari (2023), which starred Nandamuri Balakrishna and Sreeleela.

With the A certification now confirmed and the required changes completed, Vijay's final film is set for a theatrical release soon, even as the makers await an official date announcement.
