Seeing appa become CM is historic: Vijay's son Jason Sanjay recalls election win
Ahead of Sigma, CM Vijay and Sankgeetha's son Jason Sanjay opened up about his parents in his first interview. His remarks underscored family legacy, personal responsibility and the push to build his own identity.
Ahead of his directorial debut Sigma, Jason Sanjay, son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay and Sankgeetha, has given fans a rare glimpse into his personal life. In his first-ever interview, Sanjay spoke candidly about the lessons he learnt from his father, the influence of his mother Sankgeetha, and the responsibility that comes with carrying one of Tamil cinema's most celebrated family names.
In an interview with Behindwoods, Sanjay said watching Vijay become the Chief Minister was a defining moment for the entire family. "Seeing my Appa become the Chief Minister is a historic revolution. It is an extra level of responsibility for me, my sister and everyone in our family. It is the legacy that we have to carry forward and safeguard," he said.
Sanjay also revealed the advice Vijay gave him before he stepped into films. Rather than relying on his father's stature, Vijay encouraged him to carve his own path. "My Appa told me that I need to build my own identity and name. He asked me to reach out if I ever needed any help, but he wanted me to create my own path," he shared.
It is to be noted that Vijay and Sankgeetha have filed for divorce seeking to end their marriage of 27 years.

The young filmmaker also spoke warmly about his mother, Sankgeetha, joking that she always knew what he was up to. "My mom is like a spy. Whenever I try to do something secretly or hang out without telling anyone, I always get caught," he laughed.
He then recalled a childhood incident that landed him in trouble at home.
"One night I took the car without informing anyone and came back only the next morning. My phone was switched off, and my family was about to file a missing complaint. When I returned home, I really got into trouble," he said.
Jason also looked back at his brief appearance alongside Vijay in the hit song Naan Adicha Thaangamatta from Vettaikaaran. He admitted that he barely remembers filming the sequence.
"I don't even remember how I ended up in that song. I just wore the costume, and when they said action, I ran and hugged my Appa. I was only around eight or nine years old then. Whenever I direct now, those shooting memories come back to me," he said.
Asked whether he inherited Vijay's dancing skills, Sanjay remained modest. "Dance comes only with practice. I am not a natural dancer. Please don't compare me with my father," he said.
