The teaser opens with Varun Tej introducing himself as Kanakaraju from Penugonda in Rayalaseema. However, the visuals unexpectedly shift to Korea, prompting the character himself to question why the footage doesn't match what he is describing. The playful opening soon gives way to a supernatural mystery.
Kanakaraju is introduced as a short-tempered village youth who enjoys drinking and lives an ordinary life until a mysterious dragon-shaped vase appears to possess him. Following the supernatural encounter, his eyes turn blue and he begins exhibiting extraordinary powers, seemingly transporting himself whenever someone mentions Korea.
The teaser concludes by revealing a dramatically different version of Varun Tej. Sporting tattoos, a missing middle finger and surrounded by henchmen, the final moments hint at his connection to a Korean mafia, suggesting the actor will be seen in two contrasting shades during the course of the film.
Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, Korean Kanakaraju is billed as a cross-cultural horror comedy blending Indian and Korean influences. Ritika Nayak plays the female lead, while comedian Satya appears in a key role. Thaman S has composed the music, with the recently released first single, Kamsahamnida, already drawing attention for its Korean phrases and Sid Sriram's vocals.
Varun Tej was last seen in Matka, which underperformed at the box office. Following Korean Kanakaraju, the actor will also be seen in Bhari, a sports drama directed by Yadhu Vamsee.
