Nandamuri Balakrishna's next announced with Devara director Koratala Siva

Director Koratala Siva has announced a new film with Nandamuri Balakrishna, the producers confirmed. The move shifts attention from Siva's upcoming directorial, Devara: Part 2, starring Balakrishna's nephew, Jr NTR.

Director Koratala Siva has announced his next film after 2024’s Devara: Part 1, which stars Jr NTR. Siva's new film will be headlined by Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is Jr NTR’s uncle. The announcement was made on Friday with a poster.

The development comes even as speculation continues over Devara: Part 2, which had earlier been expected to be Siva’s next project.

Devara: Part 1, which stars Jr NTR, Saif Ali Khan and Janhvi Kapoor, received lukewarm reviews upon release in 2024. The film reportedly grossed Rs 428 crore worldwide. While there has been no official confirmation on the status of the sequel, recent statements from Jr NTR and producer Sudhakar Mikkilineni have kept the project in discussion even as attention shifts to Siva’s new film with Balakrishna.

The announcement

The production house Yuvasudha Arts announced the project with the line, “The Stars Align. A Festival Awaits. #NBKxKoratalaSiva #NBK112.”

The text on the poster read, “Power meets purpose. Mass becomes a moment. Shoot begins soon.”

A source close to the unit told Hindustan Times, “The director has already locked the script, and regular shooting will commence soon.” Further details about the cast and crew have not been announced yet.

Questions around Devara 2

Since the release of Devara: Part 1, there have been reports that the sequel is being shelved. The first film ended with storylines that led many viewers to expect a continuation, but the absence of official updates for more than a year added to rumours around the project’s future.

Jr NTR had, however, said after the release that the sequel would be made on a bigger scale.

Balakrishna’s line-up

Balakrishna is currently in a strong phase in his career. Akhanda began his post-pandemic run, and he followed it with Bhagavanth Kesari and Veera Simha Reddy. His upcoming 111th film is being directed by Gopichand Malineni and stars Nayanthara as the female lead.

Meanwhile, Koratala Siva had earlier been expected to move to Devara 2 after Jr NTR’s Dragon. However, with no immediate developments on that front, he has now shifted focus to this project.
