Rajamouli visited the Lumiere Museum in Lyon, where his name was permanently added to the Mur des Cineastes, placing him alongside names such as Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola. He later shared a note on X, describing the moment as one of deep emotion and gratitude.

In his post, Rajamouli wrote, “Visited the Lumire Museum and the screening room where Eega and RRR was screened to a full house in Lyon, France. Thierry Fremaux, the director of the Institut Lumire and the Cannes Film Festival, was gracious enough to introduce me. Then he said he had planned a surprise and walked me through the very street where cinema was born. I was already emotional for everything that was happening around me (sic)."

"And there is this wall full of plaques. Names of legends like Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino, Francis Ford Coppola and then I noticed a plate covered with a red cloth. My mind went blank. I don’t even know what to say for the honour of having my name permanently placed on the Mur des Cineastes, along with the greats (sic)," he added.

"Only gratitude. Deeply, deeply humbled. Thank you @InstitutLumiere for a memory I will carry for a lifetime (sic)," the director concluded.

Rajamouli's son, SS Karthikeya, celebrating his father’s achievements during their trip to France, shared an emotional post on X. He expressed how overwhelming it was to have "EEGA & RRR screen at the place where the first shot using a cinematograph was EVER shot," adding that the honour of seeing him recognised "with a plaque on their wall amongst the greats" at the Institut Lumire in Lyon was deeply moving.

Karthikeya reflected on the global impact of the films, stating, "Listening to people say that they are discovering Indian cinema through his films and exploring Indian stories and culture is so gratifying (sic)!" Looking back at how far they have come, he concluded with excitement for the future, calling it a "satisfying and full filing trip" and looking forward to the long journey ahead.

The honour comes as Rajamouli takes a break from work on Varanasi, one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years. The director recently said the film’s major action sequences have already been completed and that the shoot is expected to wrap by October.

Varanasi features actors Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran and is set for a theatrical release in April 2027.
