Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), unseated Udhayanidhi's Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the recent state elections and after the shift of power in the state, Vijay has assumed office as Chief Minister of the state. Udhayanidhi, the erstwhile Deputy Chief Minister, has been chosen Leader of the opposition.
With the changing political equation between Vijay and Udhayanidhi, who are now set to face each other in the Assembly, the old picture has assumed significance.

Interest in the photograph has grown because of the personal history between Vijay and Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu's erstwhile Chief Minister, MK Stalin.
Udhayanidhi had produced Vijay's 2008 film Kuruvi, and the film was his debut project as producer. The photograph is from that period, and it shows a much younger Vijay and Udhayanidhi.
Meanwhile, Vijay's upcoming film, Jana Nayagan, will release soon, producer Venkat K Narayana said at his swearing-in ceremony on May 10. The film has been stuck owing to censor hassles for months now. Directed by H Vinoth, it is billed as Vijay’s final film as he has entered politics.
Jana Nayagan also features Mamitha Baiju, Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol. It was originally slated for a Pongal release in January 2026, but was delayed because of certification issues.
The official release date of the film is yet to be announced.
