Extremely heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, while several other states are likely to receive heavy to very heavy showers.

The widespread rainfall is being driven by a well-marked low-pressure area persisting over east Madhya Pradesh.

The system is expected to move west-northwest slowly over the next 24 hours, while the monsoon trough and other weather systems continue to channel moisture across much of the country, keeping rain activity strong over northern, central and eastern India.

This weather pattern is expected to keep rainfall active through the week.

The IMD has forecast widespread showers across large parts of north-west, central and northeastern India over the coming days, with heavy rainfall likely to continue in several states even after July 8.
