Thomas Tuchel has insisted he remains committed to leading England through to Euro 2028, despite the Three Lions' heartbreaking World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina. England's hopes of reaching the final were dashed on Wednesday as the defending champions staged a dramatic late comeback.

Anthony Gordon's second-half strike had put Tuchel's side on course for victory, but Argentina turned the contest on its head in the closing minutes. Enzo Fernandez restored parity before Lautaro Martinez headed home the winner in stoppage time, with Lionel Messi supplying the decisive assist for both goals to seal a 2-1 triumph and book a final against Spain.

The defeat also brought renewed focus on Tuchel's tactical calls. The German manager faced criticism for his substitutions, particularly his decision to withdraw goalscorer Gordon in favour of defender Ezri Konsa with just under 20 minutes remaining, a move that invited sustained Argentine pressure and ultimately preceded England's collapse.

Tuchel was left to face the brunt of the criticism for his calls during the game, especially after being in the lead from former players and pundits. Wayne Rooney said the approach of the England manager was too passive and slammed the German tactician for not chasing the second goal.

The likes of Alan Shearer, Gary Neville and Micah Richards also slammed Tuchel for the way he managed the game. However, despite this Tuchel said his aim is to ensure he sees off the remainder of his contract, which will be until the Euros 2028.

"We keep on going with the contract until the home Euros. I'm looking forward to that even though right now it's difficult to look that far ahead," said Tuchel.

Before the start of the campaign, Tuchel had extended his England contract until the home Euros in 2028.

FA BACKS TUCHEL

ESPN reported that the Football Association continues to back Tuchel despite England's World Cup disappointment. The governing body, which extended the German's contract ahead of the tournament until 2028, remains keen for him to stay in charge as the team shifts its focus to the European Championship.

England will face France in the third-place playoff on Saturday, July 18.
