A Goa-based Airbnb host has shared a video showing the condition in which guests left her 2BHK apartment after a four-day stay, urging travellers to be more responsible while staying in rented homes.

The video, posted on Instagram, shows food scattered across the floor, soiled plates left on the dining table, empty packets strewn across the rooms, and the apartment in complete disarray. The host also said that her cleaner had already disposed of several empty beer bottles before she recorded the clip.

"This video is for those people who are thinking of booking an Airbnb during their trip to Goa. Guests checked out from my 2BHK apartment today. And just look at what they have done to my house," she said in the video.

The apartment, she said, is thoroughly cleaned before every check-in and that guests are clearly instructed to leave the kitchen clean while checking out. She also said that the house had even been cleaned once during the guests' stay, but they left it looking like "a garbage dump."

Recalling her interaction with the guests, the host claimed they brushed off her concerns, saying, "Thoda hi toh ganda hai. Isme kya badi baat hai (It's only a little dirty. What's the big deal?)”

Urging travellers to be mindful, she said, "Please be responsible travellers. Don't dirty the house you rent."

In the caption accompanying the post, the host wrote, "This video is for Indian Airbnb guests. Hosts from all over Airbnb can relate to this. If we confront them, they say the host is rude and Goans are also rude."

In the comments section of the post, several users weighed in on guest etiquette and the responsibilities of short-term rental users.

"No wonder Indians are at the receiving end in many countries, especially for their civic sense,” a user said.

Another suggested that the guests should receive a negative review on Airbnb so future hosts could make informed decisions.

Some users urged hosts to introduce cleaning penalties: "Please add cleaning charges and a penalty if the apartment is left untidy and not in its original clean condition.”

Others said such incidents were common: "We face this issue every day. Most guests don't care, especially Indians.”

Another commented that guests often forget they are staying in someone else's home and suggested charging a refundable cleaning deposit that is returned only if the property is left in good condition.

The incident comes days after an Airbnb owner in Shillong accused four guests from Uttar Pradesh of vandalising a newly opened homestay, violating house rules and assaulting a caretaker.
