Iran executes two men convicted of links to Islamic State
Iran has executed two Islamic State members after they were convicted of armed rebellion and plotting attacks, according to state television. The case centres on a post-defeat ISIS cell near the Iraqi border and a security operation that left militants and Revolutionary Guard members dead.

Iran has executed two members of the Islamic State (ISIS) group after they were convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic, according to Iranian state television.
Associated Press quoted the report which identified the men as Mohieddin Abdollahi and Hossein Palani. Authorities said they were part of an ISIS cell formed after the group's territorial defeat in Iraq and Syria and had been planning attacks inside Iran.
Iranian security forces reportedly uncovered the cell's hideout in the Bamo mountain area near the Iraqi border before the alleged attacks could be carried out. During the operation, several militants were killed, others were arrested, and three members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard also died.
Officials said security forces seized weapons, ammunition and other equipment from the hideout.
The two men were convicted of armed rebellion against the Islamic Republic and were hanged after Iran's Supreme Court upheld their death sentences. The judiciary did not disclose the location where the executions were carried out.
