
Hero Xpulse 421 spotted testing: Hero's flagship adventure bike
Hero MotoCorp's upcoming Xpulse 421 has been spotted testing in challenging mountain conditions, revealing new details about its engine, chassis and features as the brand prepares its most ambitious adventure motorcycle yet.

Hero MotoCorp's Xpulse 421 has finally been spotted in what appears to be one of its most revealing test outings yet. The upcoming adventure motorcycle was photographed during high-altitude testing, offering a closer look at the machine that is expected to spearhead Hero's push into the mid-capacity ADV segment.
At first glance, the Xpulse 421 carries a proper big-bike adventure stance. The motorcycle features a tall windscreen, expansive fuel tank, upright ergonomics and a high-mounted exhaust, all of which point towards a strong touring focus. The bodywork appears more substantial than that of the Xpulse 210, giving the upcoming model a more mature and premium road presence.
The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the new engine and platform. Hero is expected to equip the Xpulse 421 with an all-new liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor displacing slightly over 400cc. While official specifications remain under wraps, power and torque outputs are likely to be competitive with other motorcycles in the segment.
The motorcycle is built around a new trellis frame, signalling a departure from the architecture used on existing Xpulse models. Suspension duties appear to be handled by long-travel upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, reinforcing the bike's off-road credentials. Wire-spoke wheels are also visible, with the front likely measuring 21 inches.
Interestingly, the rear wheel appears to be smaller in diameter than what is traditionally seen on off-road-focused motorcycles.
The prototype also reveals a sturdy swingarm and disc brakes at both ends, with the front featuring a radial-mounted caliper. Dual-channel ABS is expected to be standard, with switchable functionality likely offered for off-road riding.
Technology is set to be another major highlight of the Xpulse 421. A large TFT instrument console dominates the cockpit and appears significantly bigger than the displays commonly found in this price category. New switchgear is also visible, including a dedicated mode selector button that hints at multiple riding modes.
Another noteworthy feature spotted on the test bike is cruise control. A dedicated switch on the right-hand handlebar suggests Hero intends to position the Xpulse 421 as a serious long-distance touring machine, offering features that are becoming increasingly important in the premium adventure segment.
The overall design appears purpose-built rather than purely styled for effect. The motorcycle's proportions, hardware and packaging indicate that Hero is targeting riders looking for genuine touring and off-road capability rather than just adventure-inspired aesthetics.
Although Hero MotoCorp has yet to announce an official debut date, the advanced nature of this prototype suggests that the Xpulse 421 could make its premiere in the coming months before eventually reaching showrooms. Once launched, it is expected to sit at the top of the Xpulse range and take on established rivals such as the Himalayan 450 and KTM 390 Adventure.
