Ambulance with pregnant woman gets stuck in pothole for hours, baby dies
A desperate race to hospital turned into a two-hour ordeal after the ambulance got stuck in a pothole. By the time she reached the hospital, her unborn baby was declared dead.
A pregnant woman’s unborn baby died after the ambulance carrying her in labour was allegedly stuck on a badly damaged road for nearly two hours. The incident took place in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on September 2.
The woman went into labour and her family called a government ambulance to take her to hospital. According to the complaint, the ambulance became stuck on a severely damaged village road while carrying the woman. With the vehicle unable to move, villagers tied it to a tractor and pulled it out.
By the time the woman reached the hospital, her unborn baby had stopped responding and was declared dead, the complaint said.
Visuals shared on social media showed the ambulance being pulled out by a tractor on a heavily damaged road. India Today could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.
Pradeep Kumar later approached the authorities, seeking action against those responsible for maintaining the road.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vinod Kumar said the complaint was received during Tehsil Diwas on September 5 and had been forwarded to the Public Works Department.
“We have sought a report from the department. Further action will be taken after the report is received,” Kumar said.
The incident also triggered a political response from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who blamed corruption for the newborn’s death.
“What could be more unfortunate than this due to the BJP’s corruption, even those who have not yet been born are being killed,” Yadav said in a post on X.
Officials said on Monday that the matter is under investigation.
