Woman injured as old feud sparks clash between neighbours in Lucknow, car torched
A dispute between two neighbouring families in Lucknow's Chinhat area escalated into violence after a Safari vehicle was set on fire. Both sides have filed complaints, and police are examining rival assault claims and the vehicle fire.
A violent clash between two neighbouring families in Lucknow’s Chinhat area has left several people injured, with one woman suffering serious facial injuries after she was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon, police said.
The incident took place on Wednesday following a dispute involving the burning of a Safari vehicle.
Both sides have lodged complaints, and police have registered cases under relevant sections. Investigators are examining the allegations made by the two families.
SAFARI SET ABLAZE, FAMILY CLAIMS ATTACK
According to Uday Pratap Mishra, a resident of the area, his Safari car was set on fire in the early hours of September 23 following an old dispute with neighbours.
Mishra said that when his family objected to the incident, Rajesh Tiwari, his son Sachin Tiwari and his wife Sangeeta Tiwari entered their house carrying weapons and attacked the family.
During the assault, Mishra’s wife Hemlata Mishra suffered serious injuries to her face. He said a sharp weapon struck her cheek, cutting away a portion of the flesh, while her lips were also badly injured.
Hemlata was subsequently admitted to Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for treatment. Mishra’s daughter Astha also suffered injuries, he said.
The family further accused the attackers of assaulting the women and tearing their clothes during the confrontation.
OTHER SIDE GIVES DIFFERENT ACCOUNT
The neighbouring family has made counter-allegations.
Sonu Tiwari claimed that between 6 am and 7 am on September 23, Hemlata Mishra, Uday Pratap Mishra, Astha, Mishti and Abhi Mishra arrived at their house carrying sticks and attacked them.
Sonu said his father, Rajesh Tiwari, is a neurological patient, but the attackers still assaulted him and sprayed chilli spray into his eyes.
He further claimed that the family was attacked with a sharp weapon in the presence of police personnel and local residents. He also claimed that they were threatened with being shot.
Sonu accused the other group of taking his gold chain, Rs 10,000 in cash and mobile phone during the confrontation.
He also claimed that he had submitted a complaint at Chinhat Police Station on September 11 but no action was taken at the time.
POLICE INVESTIGATING BOTH COMPLAINTS
Chinhat Inspector Dinesh Chandra Mishra said the incident appeared to stem from an old dispute between the two sides.
“Both sides have levelled allegations against each other,” the officer said.
Police have registered cases based on the complaints and are examining the circumstances surrounding the clash, including the allegations regarding the vehicle fire and the subsequent assault.
Investigators are also examining available evidence and statements from people present at the spot. Police said further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
