Kerala govt sanctions Rs 25.64 crore for flood-hit homes in Pathanamthitta

The Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 25.64 crore to help restore flood-damaged homes in Pathanamthitta district, the Chief Minister’s Office said on Tuesday.
The assistance will provide Rs 10,000 each to 25,648 families whose homes were damaged by extremely heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in the district in August.
Chief Minister VD Satheesan had announced the financial assistance soon after the floods. The amount has been sanctioned from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund (CMDRF).
The Pathanamthitta District Collector has been directed to disburse the assistance, which will be transferred directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, the CMO said.
Separately, the government has also approved financial assistance for the medical treatment of returned expatriates and for dependants of expatriates who have died, the Chief Minister said in a Facebook post.
Beneficiaries will receive between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 each. A total of Rs 7.5 lakh has been sanctioned for the medical treatment of 30 people from the Chief Minister’s Chairman’s Fund, he said.
The Chief Minister said the government would continue working to ensure the welfare and safety of expatriates.
