CM Vijay to meet TVK booth workers on Friday ahead of Tamil Nadu bypoll

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay will interact with booth-level TVK functionaries in Maduranthakam Assembly constituency at 3 pm on September 25, Minister N Anand said, as the party steps up campaigning for the October 6 bypoll.

The TVK has fielded Maragatham Kumaravel, who won the seat on an AIADMK ticket in the 2026 Assembly polls, later resigned as MLA and joined the TVK. The bypoll will also be held in Dharapuram on October 6.

Addressing booth agents along with Minister Aadhav Arjuna, Anand outlined the government's commitment to quick redressal of public grievances. He urged party workers to campaign door to door without fear and assure voters that essential needs, including roads and drinking water supply, would be met within three to four months.

Anand said, "TVK founder Vijay will interact with booth-level functionaries at 3 pm." He added, "Every minister, in whichever constituency the chief minister assigns them in-charge, will stay for two to three days in that constituency alongside the Member of the Legislative Assembly to see what the people's needs and problems are, designating grievance-redressal days, and will get every issue resolved promptly."

At the meeting, Arjuna highlighted the government's policy measures and said the administration had initiated a caste-based socio-economic census. He said, "After 1931, in 2026, our brother Vijay initiated the social justice census, the caste-based census. Is this not a great history." The TVK government announced the state's "social justice survey" on June 18, but said fieldwork would begin only after the Union government completes its planned caste enumeration as part of the national population census. As of September 2026, data collection had not begun.

Arjuna also accused the former DMK regime of not carrying out the exercise during its five-year term despite repeatedly claiming to support social justice. He said the government had waived Rs 6,220 crore in farm loans and ensured minimum support prices for paddy and sugarcane cultivators, especially in the northern districts. He also criticised the current AIADMK leadership, alleging that it had moved away from the party's founding principles through covert ties with the DMK.

Both leaders asked party workers to secure a big mandate for TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel on the 'Whistle' symbol. Arjuna set a target of 1.25 lakh to 1.40 lakh votes and said the aim was to win by a margin of more than one lakh. The meeting brought together campaign planning, promises on grievance redressal and references to the government's policy measures ahead of the Maduranthakam bypoll.
