Rajasthan urban polls: Phase 2 voting across 147 civic bodies tomorrow
Rajasthan will hold the second phase of urban local body elections on Friday across 147 civic bodies. More than 87 lakh voters will decide 4,774 wards, with counting due on September 14.
The second phase of Rajasthan's urban local body elections will be held on Friday, with more than 87 lakh voters eligible to cast their votes. Polling will take place from 7 am to 6 pm across 147 urban local bodies, including six municipal corporations, 24 municipal councils and 117 municipalities.
A total of 18,266 candidates are contesting for 4,774 wards in this phase. According to State Election Commission data, 87,60,884 voters can vote at 9,758 polling booths.
The six municipal corporations going to polls are Jaipur, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur and Pali. Jaipur Municipal Corporation is the biggest civic body in this phase, with 150 wards, 723 candidates, 24.33 lakh eligible voters and 2,256 polling booths.
Jodhpur Municipal Corporation has 100 wards and 7.12 lakh voters, while Kota Municipal Corporation also has 100 wards and 8.26 lakh voters. Ajmer Municipal Corporation has 80 wards and 4.38 lakh voters, Udaipur Municipal Corporation has 80 wards and 4.16 lakh voters, and Pali Municipal Corporation has 65 wards and 1.81 lakh voters.
District Election Officer (City) Sandesh Nayak said polling parties were dispatched from Shri Bhawani Niketan College on Sikar Road as part of arrangements for training, distribution of election material and deployment of polling personnel. He said 2,256 polling stations had been designated for Jaipur's 150 wards, including 2,204 main stations and 52 auxiliary stations.
The first phase of the elections on September 9 covered 162 urban local bodies, including four municipal corporations, 27 municipal councils and 131 municipalities. A total of 20,623 candidates were in the fray for 5,393 wards, and voter turnout in the first phase was 76.41 per cent.
Counting of votes for councillor posts in both phases will be held on September 14 from 8 am across the state, while elections for mayors and chairpersons are scheduled for September 21 and those for deputy mayors, deputy chairpersons and municipal vice-presidents for September 22.
