Delhi Police made a fifth arrest in connection with the Satya Niketan building collapse, apprehending labor contractor Sanoj from Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh. Sanoj stands accused of executing structural modifications to the foundation in the basement without required Municipal Corporation of Delhi permits. Investigators revealed that the building was leased out to run a paying guest accommodation. Meanwhile, four other individuals—Hariram, his wife Urmila, son Mahesh, and PG operator Sudhanshu—have been arrested, while another partner, Shubham Tyagi, remains absconding. The incident has turned the spotlight on widespread urban planning and civic safety violations across Delhi, where total buildings surged from 24.1 lakh in 2016 to 28.4 lakh in 2023. An analysis of 1,717 structures in Satya Niketan revealed that 660 buildings (38%) recorded illegal height increases since 2016, placing severe structural burdens on decades-old foundations.

Following a fatal building collapse in Satya Niketan that claimed the lives of seven students, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has commenced a phased demolition of adjacent unsafe structures, including the five-storey Kanak Lata girls' paying guest building. MCD personnel began dismantling the top floors with hammers after evacuating residents and retrieving their belongings. The municipal authorities have also issued demolition and show-cause notices against buildings with unauthorised additional storeys violating height regulations. The incident has raised wider questions regarding student accommodation near Delhi University's South Campus, where only four percent of enrolled students have access to university hostel infrastructure. The report highlights how private PG operators exploit students through exorbitant electricity charges ranging between 14 to 18 rupees per unit, alongside rising rents and a lack of civic oversight.

Delhi Police have arrested a fourth accused in connection with the tragic collapse of the 'Hostel Days' paying guest accommodation in Delhi's Satya Niketan. The arrested individual, identified as PG operator Sudhanshu, was running the hostel under a lease agreement along with his business partner Shubham Tyagi, who remains absconding. Police investigations revealed that the building, constructed in 1990 without pillar support, had been leased out by the property owners' son Mahesh for a monthly rent. Despite its dilapidated condition, unauthorized basement excavation and modifications were carried out during the monsoon season. Sudhanshu was apprehended following interrogations with the owners, and Delhi Police are seeking extended custody to probe permit violations, operational lapses, and administrative oversights by civic authorities.

A major political row has erupted in Punjab following the death by suicide of Gulzar Singh, who alleged harassment by the Aam Aadmi Party. The deceased had questioned Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema regarding the rampant sale and easy availability of drugs in the state, noting his son was affected by substance abuse. Before consuming poison, he released a video naming the minister and alleging pressure to tender an apology. While an FIR for abetment to suicide was registered against five persons including a sarpanch, the minister was not named.
