The Tamil Nadu government has finalised the location for its new secretariat, issuing a government order designating Foreshore Estate in Chennai's Pattinapakkam area as the project site. The chosen site on Tamil Nadu Housing Board land is situated close to the Chief Minister's residence. The decision comes as the current secretariat at the seventeenth-century Fort St George functions on limited land overseen by the Archaeological Survey of India. Foreshore Estate was selected among three shortlisted locations. Meanwhile, political leader Anbumani Ramadoss raised concerns regarding traffic congestion and feasibility in the area.

A businessman in Kanpur, Amit Gupta, died after being severely assaulted by local goons when he objected to men publicly urinating in front of his shop. The victim succumbed to his injuries in the hospital without regaining consciousness. His family alleged that despite submitting CCTV footage of the incident to the police, no arrests were made even 72 hours later. DCP Atul Srivastava stated that an FIR has been registered at Kakadev police station, about a dozen people were detained for questioning, four suspects have been identified from CCTV footage, and four dedicated police teams have been constituted to apprehend the accused.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has announced a statewide agitation on 12 September to protest against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay's speech in the Assembly. The party condemned the Chief Minister's remarks, corruption allegations, and a hand gesture allegedly mocking party chief MK Stalin's injuries sustained during the Emergency under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act. Although Chief Minister Vijay and the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam issued a clarification stating that there was no intention to mock anyone, opposition leaders and TVK alliance partners, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and Communist Party of India (Marxist), termed the gesture irresponsible.

A key meeting of the TVK and its alliance partners, including the Congress, VCK, and AIUML, is underway in Tamil Nadu to finalise the official name of the coalition and formulate strategy for upcoming by-polls in Madurantakam and Dharapuri. The coalition name is expected to reflect principles of secularism and social justice. The meeting takes place amid internal friction after alliance partner VCK raised objections regarding an assembly gesture, despite clarifications that the action carried no intent to disrespect anyone. Deliberations continue on selecting candidates for the vacant assembly seats ahead of a joint press briefing.
