Tamil Nadu Politics: Alliance Meeting, Left Parties Boycott & 2029 PM Face Debate

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is convening a meeting with alliance partners at the TVK headquarters in Chennai to decide an official name for the ruling coalition. The alliance, comprising the TVK, Congress, VCK, and IUML, marks one hundred days since assuming power. State Congress Chief Manickam Tagore is attending the meeting on behalf of the party, while the Left Front, which provides outside support to the government, is not participating. The meeting follows recent discussions among alliance members regarding a gesture made by the Chief Minister in the state assembly concerning former Chief Minister MK Stalin, which the Chief Minister clarified was not intended as disrespect.

In a fresh development in Punjab, the son of deceased Gulzar Singh has claimed a compromise with Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema following his father's death by suicide. The son, Lakhwinder Singh, had earlier raised serious allegations against Cheema but now states that a compromise has been reached, with the government offering financial compensation and a government job for one of his brothers. He maintained there was no pressure from the state administration and expressed satisfaction with the police probe following arrests in the case. Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a political clash between the Aam Aadmi Party and opposition parties including the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and the Akali Dal.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi civic officials initiated demolition action against unauthorised construction across several parts of the national capital, including Uttam Nagar, Pandav Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Satya Niketan. In Uttam Nagar, bulldozers were deployed to bring down extended projections and unauthorized portions of a four-storey under-construction building situated in a regularised residential area. Officials confirmed that the structure had been booked during routine inspections after the property owner proceeded with construction without securing required municipal building map approvals and mandatory clearances. Civic authorities noted that building plans must adhere to municipal guidelines and proper layout approvals must be secured even within regularised residential pockets. The enforcement action comes amid wider scrutiny on unsafe structures, illegal extensions, and building safety across Delhi following recent incidents in areas like Satya Niketan and the evacuation of a paying guest facility in Chirag Delhi.

Following the collapse of a paying guest accommodation in Satya Niketan near Delhi University's South Campus, which killed seven students, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has initiated a phased demolition drive of an adjacent unsafe structure. MCD workers are using electric drillers and hammers to dismantle the top floor of the building, which currently stands on iron beams and pillars. The civic body is issuing show-cause notices against buildings violating municipal norms, while the Delhi government plans regulations covering rent and security for paying guest accommodations across the national capital.
