Ameesha Patel's staff member arrested over Rs 5 lakh theft at Mumbai residence

A staff member attached to actor Ameesha Patel’s household has been arrested in connection with the alleged theft of jewellery worth approximately Rs 5 lakh from her family residence in Mumbai. The incident reportedly took place at the actor's family home in Churchgate, where her mother, Asha Patel, filed a police complaint after high-value items —including a diamond-studded gold bangle — went missing.

Confirming the development exclusively to India Today, Ameesha’s manager said, “Yes, it’s true. They caught the staff member, who is now in jail.” The suspect remains in custody as police continue their investigation into the matter.

The arrested worker has been identified as 40-year-old Seema Ghate, who had been employed as a domestic help at the Churchgate residence for nearly eighteen months. According to the police, the bangles reportedly went missing in January 2026. Asha Patel initially suspected Ghate and repeatedly asked her over several months to return the missing items before approaching the authorities.

Following a formal complaint, the Marine Drive police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A crime detection team subsequently traced Ghate to Virar, where she was taken into custody. She was produced before a Mumbai court and remanded to police custody until September 15, as investigators continue efforts to recover the stolen jewellery and determine whether she had any accomplices or prior criminal history.

Ameesha or her family members are yet to issue a statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, Ameesha was last seen in actor Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 (2023). The Anil Sharma directorial—which also featured Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, and Manish Wadhwa in pivotal roles — emerged as a massive box-office success, crossing Rs 600 crore worldwide and giving the actor a high-profile commercial revival.

Following the film’s strong theatrical run, Patel has remained largely selective with her screen appearances, with production on Gadar 3 currently in early development stages.

Ameesha entered Hindi cinema with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000) alongside Hrithik Roshan, a commercial success that established her industry profile. She followed it with the period action drama Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) opposite Sunny Deol, which emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of its era.

Following her initial successes, Ameesha’s box-office record saw a sharp downturn. A string of subsequent releases —including Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar (2001), Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage (2002), Humko Tumse Pyaar Hai (2006), and Aap Ki Khatir (2006) — failed to find commercial traction, stalling her career momentum through the 2000s.
