Who was Kumod Raney, the friend Salman Khan's family is mourning?

On Tuesday, Salman Khan was seen holding back tears as he attended the funeral of close family friend Kumod Raney in Mumbai. Several members of the Khan family joined him, and visuals from the funeral were widely shared online, drawing attention to the loss that has left the family mourning.

Kumod Raney, who was close to Salman Khan and his family, was a Dubai-based entrepreneur and founder of Reign Beauty Bar, a beauty and wellness venture she started in 2005. Though she largely stayed away from the spotlight, her social media posts offered glimpses of a long association with the Khan family and their circle of friends.

Her Instagram account, which had more than 15,000 followers and 633 posts, offered occasional glimpses into her personal life, travels, business ventures and moments with family and friends. The account also suggested that she had a son named Kabir. Earlier this year, Kumod celebrated her 60th birthday at a gathering attended by close friends and loved ones, including Salman Khan.

Social media posts suggest Kumod was married to Juggey Raney, described as a longtime friend of Salman Khan. Over the years, she appeared to share a close bond with the family, attending social gatherings, celebrating birthdays with Salman Khan, and spending time with Sohail Khan's former wife Seema Sajdeh.

According to a post on Reign Beauty Bar's Instagram account, Kumod, through Reign, "attempted to create a high-standard beauty lounge that offers multiple services under one roof while not compromising quality". Apart from beauty, she was also passionate about interior designing, social media and marketing.

On Tuesday, members of the Khan family came together to pay their last respects at her funeral. Among those present were Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Helen and Salma Khan. Photos and videos shared on social media showed Salman visibly emotional as he paid his respects to the bereaved family.

Later, Sohail Khan shared a throwback photo with Kumud on Instagram and wrote, "I lost my beautiful sister today. Nobody in the world can replace her. My heart goes out to Jaggi & Kabir as Kumud was their lifeline (sic)."

Kumod Raney's death has prompted an outpouring of condolences, with the Khan family's presence at her funeral and their messages underlining the close bond they shared with her over the years.
