National Award-winning filmmaker Dominic Sangma attacked in Itanagar
Filmmaker and FTII faculty member Dominic Sangma was assaulted in Itanagar after intervening when two men allegedly harassed students. The incident has prompted a police investigation and drawn attention from the film and academic community.
National Award-winning filmmaker and Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) faculty member Dominic Sangma was attacked by two men near the Jollang-Rakap road in Itanagar on Wednesday evening, police said.
The incident reportedly took place after Sangma intervened when two men were allegedly harassing students in the area.
Sangma, who is the head of the Screenwriting Department at FTII's Jote campus, was returning from an evening walk at around 6.30 pm when he encountered the situation, according to reports.
Police said Sangma approached the men after noticing their alleged behaviour towards the students. A confrontation followed, during which the filmmaker was allegedly assaulted.
The two men reportedly fled the spot soon after the incident. Police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and trace them.
Sangma is a National Award-winning filmmaker and educator known for his work in Indian cinema. He is also a faculty member at FTII's Jote campus in Arunachal Pradesh.
