Neymar's son mistaken for pitch invader, Brazil star steps in to clear confusion

FIFA World Cup 2026: Before sharing a heartwarming hug with his father, Neymar's son, Davi Lucca, was stopped from entering the field after Brazil's 3-0 win over Scotland in Miami. Stewards mistook him for a pitch invader, but the Brazil star quickly stepped in to clear up the confusion.

Brazil's commanding 3-0 victory over Scotland at Miami Stadium concluded with an emotional scene off the ball, as a tearful Neymar had to personally intervene when stadium stewards mistook his own son for a pitch invader.

The poignant moment unfolded shortly after the final whistle of the FIFA World Cup Group C fixture. For Neymar, the evening was already charged with immense personal significance, marking his official return to the Selecao for the first time since sustaining a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in October 2023.

After celebrating the crucial victory on the pitch with his teammates, the 34-year-old superstar walked over to one of the stadium enclosures where his 14-year-old son, Davi Lucca, had been cheering him on. Spotting his father approaching the touchline, Davi eagerly tried to get down from the stands to greet him.

However, seeing a young fan attempting to cross the perimeter and enter the field of play without authorisation, two alert stadium security guards immediately intercepted the teenager. Mistaking him for an over-zealous pitch invader, the guards stopped him in his tracks to prevent him from reaching the grass.

Realising the immediate misunderstanding, Neymar quickly stepped in to clear the confusion. The Brazilian forward frantically signalled to the stewards, who promptly stepped back once they realised the boy's identity.

What followed was a deeply emotional embrace between father and son on the sidelines. Visibly overwhelmed by the gravity of his long, gruelling 20-month journey back to the international stage, Neymar broke down in tears during the warm hug, capping off a night that clearly meant far more to him than just three points.

Lucca is the son of Neymar's former partner, Brazilian digital creator Carolina Darias.

The touching family reunion provided a perfect postscript to a highly successful evening for Carlo Ancelotti's side, who comfortably sealed their qualification for the World Cup Round of 32 as group winners.

BRAZIL CRUISE IN MIAMI

The match itself was a masterclass in clinical finishing from the South American giants, who never looked in danger of slipping up against the Scots. Real Madrid winger Vincius Jnior put on an explosive display, capitalising on a Scottish defensive mix-up to open the scoring in just the 7th minute, before doubling the lead with a sharp header in first-half stoppage time. Striker Matheus Cunha put the game entirely out of Scotland's reach with a clinical finish on the hour mark.

To the absolute delight of the Miami crowd, Neymar made his official tournament debut in the 75th minute, replacing Cunha for a highly anticipated 15-minute cameo to test his match fitness after recently recovering from a late calf issue.

With maximum points from the group stage, Brazil now moves on to the knockout rounds in Houston, comforted by both a clicking frontline and a fully fit, emotionally re-energised talisman who proved he can still deliver a flawless rescue on and off the pitch.
