Galaxy Z Fold 8 launching in few weeks, Samsung teasers hint it will be wide-screen
Samsung has started teasing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series ahead of the Galaxy Unpacked event. The new foldables are expected to bring a wider design, improved displays, and a possible Ultra model.

The month of July is here. The month when Samsung generally rolls out its foldable phones. Thanks to rumour mills, talk of Galaxy Z Fold Wide is already in the air. And now, even Samsung has officially begun teasing the smartphones through a series of short videos online ahead of its upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event.
It's worth noting that the teaser didn’t reveal the phone itself yet; instead, the South Korean tech giant hinted at it by showcasing everyday objects like a broken chocolate bar or an incomplete puzzle, which hints at a new aspect ratio. The clips show a shorter and wider foldable design, which could make the cover display feel closer to a traditional smartphone while offering a broader viewing area when the device is unfolded.
What we know about Samsung’s upcoming foldable
Samsung could unveil multiple foldable smartphones in the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which is expected to be held sometime in July. The leaks pointed out that, alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, the company could also include the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra or a book-style foldable.
What we know about the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is that it could ship with a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display with a boxier 4:3 aspect ratio, paired with a wider 5.5-inch cover screen in a 16:10 aspect ratio. It could weigh 201 gms, which is lighter than other flagship devices despite being a foldable. In terms of measurements, the device measures 4.5 mm when unfolded and 9.7 mm when folded.
Previous reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, while a 5,000mAh battery is expected to handle its power requirements.
Speaking of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Apple is also rumoured to unveil its first foldable iPhone, reportedly called the iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra, this September. While the “Ultra” branding would be new for Apple’s smartphone lineup, Samsung already uses the name for its flagship Galaxy S series models. This raises questions about what an “Ultra” foldable from Samsung could bring beyond the standard Fold models. Whether both tech giants are simply following a similar naming trend or have something more distinctive planned for their foldable devices remains to be seen.
