Serbia Student Movement Beats Aleksandar Vucic In Snap Parliamentary Polls
A student-led movement in Serbia has secured a historic electoral victory against Aleksandar Vucic's ruling camp in the snap parliamentary election held on 25 October. The political shift follows nearly two years of protests triggered by the November 2024 Novi Sad train station canopy collapse that killed 16 people. Protesting students demanded transparency, accountability, and systemic action against corruption, transforming campus blockades and street demonstrations into an organized political force. Conceding defeat, Vucic confirmed that sampling data showed the opposition Student List is projected to secure between 135 and 140 seats in parliament, while his camp garnered approximately 105 seats, sparking massive street celebrations across Belgrade.
