The Supreme Court of India examined the implementation of front-of-package labelling for packaged food items high in sugar, salt, and fat, categorising the issue as a serious matter of food safety and public health, especially for children. Under proposals by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), products exceeding dietary thresholds would carry warning labels, including a proposed red hexagon design. The regulatory roadmap envisages a phased rollout based on Indian Council of Medical Research guidelines. Meanwhile, the hundred-billion-dollar packaged food industry has expressed concern before the apex court, arguing that stringent limits could impact roughly eighty percent of market products and increase compliance costs. The court noted that regulatory bodies must fulfill their statutory duty to safeguard citizens' wellbeing, with a detailed order expected ahead of the next hearing scheduled for September 28. Consumer advocates highlighted that revealing existing nutritional data on the front of packets ensures consumer awareness without altering basic product compositions.

Following a fatal building collapse that claimed seven lives in Delhi's Satya Niketan, paying guest (PG) owners and staff have gone underground amid demolition drives and crackdowns. At Girls PG Hostel Days, around 22 students have been left without caretakers, wardens, or basic amenities. Despite paying advance rent of around 15,000 rupees and security deposits ranging from 30,000 to 40,000 rupees, students are being asked to pay an additional 4,000 rupees for meals. With disconnected Wi-Fi and unreachable hostel owners, the students are forced to manage their own food, safety, and security.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is set to launch the Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra against the drug menace in Punjab, targeting the Aam Aadmi Party government. The yatra is scheduled to begin on 18 September from Pathankot and culminate in Jalandhar. During the campaign, a delegation will visit the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh to pay respects, and a charge sheet regarding drug abuse in the state will be distributed amid rising political tensions.

The first leg of the yatra will start from Pathankot and culminate in Jalandhar, featuring five major rallies. The campaign aims to provide a platform to affected families, turn the campaign into a public movement, and reach an estimated three crore people across the state.
