Born on November 7, 1987, in Kolkata, Abhishek Banerjee is a youth leader of All India Trinamool Congress and currently serves as the party’s General Secretary. He is a Member of Parliament from Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency in South 24 Pargana.
Abhishek is the son of Amit Banerjee and Lata Banerjee and nephew of TMC leader Mamta Banerjee. He went to Nava Nalanda High School and M.P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School in Kolkata to complete his early education. Banerjee moved to Delhi to continue his studies at the Indian Institute of Planning and Management (IIM), earning a BBA and an MBA in marketing and human resources. On February 24, 2012, he married Rujira Banerjee. They have two children, a daughter named Azania and a son named Aayansh.
Abhishek Banerjee joined All India Trinamool Congress in 2011 and was considered a prominent youth icon as he became national president of All India Trinamool Yuva. In his first Lok Sabha election, he ran from the Diamond Harbour seat and defeated his closest rival, Dr. Abul Hasnat of the CPI (M). During that time, Banerjee became the youngest MP in the lower house. He was re-elected from the same seat in the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.
Banerjee served as a member of several committees such as the Standing Committee on External Affairs and the Consultative Committee, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. He was selected as a member of the Coordination Committee of the opposition coalition 'I.N.D.I.A.' on September 1, 2023.
