Cyclone Arnab
Cyclone Arnab is expected to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, bringing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, strong winds and the risk of flooding in coastal areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast maximum sustained winds of 115–125 kmph, with gusts reaching 140 kmph.
The system is expected to affect northern and central coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh and southern parts of neighbouring Odisha. Authorities have stepped up preparations, including evacuation plans, emergency response measures and arrangements to restore power in the event of disruptions. Fishermen have been advised to stay away from the sea, while Odisha has announced the closure of schools and colleges in five districts for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Andhra Pradesh authorities have identified vulnerable populations and are preparing to move residents from areas at risk. Disaster management teams are on alert, with cyclone shelters and other emergency arrangements being prepared to deal with the potential impact. Heavy rainfall could disrupt transport, damage infrastructure and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.
The name Arnab was contributed by Bangladesh to the official North Indian Ocean cyclone-naming list maintained under the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones. The list contains names proposed by countries in the region and is used to identify tropical cyclones over the Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea.
