Gautam Adani is the chairman and founder of the Adani Group, a multinational conglomerate. He is an Indian businessman, a first-generation entrepreneur and one of the richest people in the world. Gautam Adani was born on June 24, 1962, in Ahmedabad, Gujarat and he has seven siblings.
At the age of 18, Gautam Adani went to Mumbai and worked as a diamond sorter for the Mahindra brothers. He continued doing it for two years before establishing his own diamond brokerage business.
Gautam Adani established Adani Exports, now known as Adani Enterprises in 1988. Gautam Adani gained massive benefits from the Indian liberalization and economic reforms of 1991. It led to immense growth in his company’s revenue, enabling him to expand his businesses. The government of Gujarat, in 1994, announced managerial outsourcing of the Mundra Port and in 1995, Gautam Adani bagged the contract for his company.
Gautam Adani is also the owner and president of the diversified conglomerate, Adani Foundation. It was founded in 1996 and is funded through the Adani Group. In the same, year Gautam Adani founded Adani power, the power-business arm of the Adani Group.
Ten years later, in 2006, he entered the power generation business, and from 2009 to 2012, Gautam Adani acquired Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael coal mine in Queensland.
Gautam Adani has also contributed Rs 100 crore to the PM Cares Fund through his group's philanthropy arm in 2020 to fight the Coronavirus outbreak. He also contributed Rs 5 crore to the Gujarat CM Relief Fund and Rs 1 crore to the Maharashtra CM Relief Fund.
Gautam Adani is married to Priti Adani. They have two sons, Karan Adani and Jeet Adani.
