Kanjivaram sarees

Kanjivaram sarees are one of the most iconic and luxurious silk sarees in India. Originating from Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu, these sarees are famous for their rich silk fabric, vibrant colours and intricate zari work. Known for their elegance and durability, Kanjivaram sarees have been a symbol of tradition, royalty and South Indian culture for generations.

These sarees are handcrafted using pure mulberry silk and decorated with gold or silver zari woven into traditional patterns. Temple borders, checks, stripes, peacocks, floral motifs and mythological designs are some of the most common elements seen in authentic Kanjivaram sarees. The contrast borders and richly designed pallus make them instantly recognisable.

One of the most special features of a Kanjivaram saree is its weaving technique. The border, body and pallu are often woven separately and then interlocked together with precision, making the saree extremely durable and long-lasting. Because of this craftsmanship, genuine Kanjivaram sarees are considered heirloom pieces that can be passed down through generations.
